PFPO participated in the meeting of Hellenic Police in Athens/Meeting with under secretary of Ministry of Rural Development and Food
Last 3 days our Federation had several meetings. On the 20th of September participated in the meeting which was held at the Athens War Museum and organized by Hellenic Police. It was very important that this meeting was organized at the initiative of chief of Hellenic Police.
The meeting was aimed exclusively at Hellenic Police Executives and its topic was the role of Hellenic Police on animal protection. The meeting was attended by the leadership of Ministry of Citizen Protection, the component under secretary of Ministry of Rural Development and Food and the Hellenic Police leadership of course.
The President of Panhellenic Animal Welfare and Environmental Federation was between the main speakers at the meeting. She focused on illegal animal trade which has been increased in Greece. On the uncontrolled animal import into the country, on severe abuse of hobbled equines and farm animals. Also, she mentioned that all appropriate actions are not taken by police officers.
The whole speech of Mrs. Bobolaki is available on the following link:
It was a very well-organized meeting. The Federation gives credit to the meeting’s planners and instigators.
On September the 18th a meeting was held with Olympia Teligioridou (under secretary of Ministry of Rural Development and Food and responsible for animal issues).
A different style transpired the conversation which lasted more than hour. Our first impression is positive.
We expect that actions will be taken to improve animal welfare in our country.
It is our belief that ministerial intervention resulted in positive actions.
In addition, a meeting was held between a deputation of Federation and executives of Legal Council of the State.
Finally, representatives of Federation had a meeting with co-organizers of campaign “Greek fashion says no to fur” on planning next steps of this campaign.
