PFPO’s representatives had an online meeting with members of the party “Green and Purple” which is consisted of 7 parties including the party for animals. Problems, positions and proposals of both sides concerning all animals (domesticated and wild fauna) were discussed in depth. Unfortunately, the party was blocked from national elections of the 21st of May. However, we were assured that cooperation will keep on for the promotion of animal issues
PFPO’s online pro-election meetings with the New Democracy party
Following a series of meetings with SYRIZA, Mera25, Green and Purple, representatives of PFPO and New Democracy met online while the Executive Secretary for companion animals was present. Topics of the discussion were: i) the questionnaire sent to all parties and ii) claims relate to problems and necessary changes to the institutional framework, staff and training of competent public services, mainly the Hellenic Police and local governance. New Democracy’s representatives stated that requests of the animal welfare community are carefully scrutinized but specific undertakings were not given.
PFPO’s seminar in collaboration with eight Directorate – General for Education
On Monday, 29 May 2023 took place the seminar “PFPO’s programs in the skills platform of the Institute of Educational Policy.” A PFPO’s collaboration with the Athens B Directorate for Secondary Education, the Directorates for Primary Education: Athens A, Athens C, West Attica, West Thessaloniki, Achaia, the Directorates for Secondary Education: Imathia, Athina C. The Lemnos Animal Welfare Society went to the Special School at the region in Kallithea
The president and the cashier of the Lemnos Animal Welfare Society visited the Special School in the region in Kallithea, following an invitation by the headmaster Mrs. Gesthimani Mania Katevanidou. Venetia and Kai from the municipal sanctuary were with them. Children had the great chance to learn how we approach an animal, what we should avoid, and also what an animal need in order to live a life of happiness. A woman had her dog tied up and exposed to extreme weather conditions and it suffered to death. On behalf of the PFPO, Anda Dimopoulou, a BoD’s member, was heard as a witness. The second court case concerned a senior dog that was abandoned out of the dorm in Patras. The lawyer Elena Arvaniti is mentioned in detail in these two court decisions that gave justice to animals. For one more time the Department of Environment has proved to be the Department of anti-enviroment. In the regulatory decision 2020-2021 (act B 3053 –07.23.2020) for hunting they once more allow the hunting of globally endangered species! They even ignore European Union regulations regarding the pause of hunting of some special species like turtledoves and the European /International regulations for hunting season periods. They even allow hunting inside special protective areas in periods when other species which live in there are being in progress of immigration and no one can guarantee their safety.
