Markella Karousi: “Physical and mental effects because of hobbling”
Orthopedic problems, joint pain, continuous anxiety, neurologic, cardiovascular and psychic problems. These are the effects of animal hobbling.
An issue developed by the vet Mrs. Markella Karousi during a recent workshop in Naxos concerning “Protection, animal welfare and abuse of pets, equines and farm animals. Legal framework and prospects”.
Mrs Karousi speech presented in detail how hobbling, has adverse effects on physical and mental health. She stated that hobbled animals live in fear, pain and agony as they are scared and exposed to a significant risk.
In the conclusion of her speech, she called on attendants to compare the negative effects of hobbling with criteria for good level of animal welfare and decide whether they would like to condemn their animals to a life of continuous pain, fear and agony.
